The latest news from our fallow deer

We have 11 fallow deer at Merlet, including 3 fawns that were born in spring 2018.

In order to avoid inbreeding, in December 2018 we introduced two female fallow deer from the park des Dronières.

Bambi!

Fallow deer are native to central Europe but today only very few are found in the wild. The antlers sported by male fallow deer are palmate with many points.

The rutting season offers a great spectacle in the months of September and October

The young fawns hide in the undergrowth during the day for more than two weeks after they are born. The mothers return to their young in the evenings and during the night to feed them.
